INFLUENCER AND COLLABORATOR OUTREACH

04/02/2026
When deciding on a restaurant, do you go to the place that looks beautiful, claims to have what you want but you've never heard of it before? Or do you go to the place that your friend raved about last week, talking about what they loved most and their honest experience there?

Word of mouth marketing has always been worth its weight in gold, but in an age when ads are everywhere, the opinion of other actual humans carries even more weight. You can see it in Steam reviews, in events like Wholesome Games Direct. For better or worse, influencers have an impact on the success of projects. Sprout Social  and Digitial Marketing Institute have pretty comprehensive looks at data on Influencer marketing, for anyone that wants to dive a bit deeper.

But how do you find people to work with?

  • Identify your goals!

What do you really want out of a collaboration? Are you building your community, finding your audience? Are you simply looking to sell, to build hype? Identify your single most important goal.

  • Be honest.

What can you offer them? If you can't afford to pay what else can you do? Influencers use games and products to create their content and grow their audience, how can your project help them?

  • Do your research.
Don't reach out to every and any influencer out there. See which ones are playing the games and supporting the projects that resemble yours. Look into those whose values align with yours. And yes, definitely research your favourites! Check whether your project would match their vibes, and examine why they're a favourite.

  • Be clear and respectful in your outreach.

You have your goal, you have your outreach list, now it's time to talk to them. Most influencers have contact info listed on their pages, always use whatever they've shared as preferred method of contact. Personalize your approach. You took the time to do the research, don't squander it.

Let them know why and how you think they'd be a good match to pair up with you. Be honest about what you can offer and what you'd expect. Don't waste their time nor yours with half-promises or vague assurances. Transparent clarity will take you so much further. Even if they decline, I can guarantee you'll leave a good impression, and again... word of mouth sells.
